A part of AustCyber Cyber Week, Dr Matthew Sorell of the University of Adelaide delivered a virtual workshop on the principles of digital forensics and digital forensic science as applied to criminal investigation. The workshop provided an introductory understanding of the methodologies, tools and techniques for effective digital forensic analysis and reporting process.

This workshop introduces the principles of digital forensics as applied to incident response (based on NIST 800-86), and digital forensic science as applied to criminal investigation. The workshop was designed to be an introductory level session suitable for IT professionals and students with a cyber interest.

Dr Matthew Sorell is Adjunct Professor of Digital Forensics at the Tallinn University of Technology, Estonia; senior lecturer in telecommunications and multimedia engineering and digital forensic science at the University of Adelaide; and a digital investigations consultant in private practice to law enforcement.
