Aus3C remains committed to our members and the cyber security industry to advocate and deliver outcomes that are the best for the Australian economy, in keeping with our mission and vision of a safer and secure nation. To that end, Aus3C has partnered with the Australian Computer Society (ACS), the Australian Information Security Association (AISA) and the Australian Women in Security Network (AWSN) and other key industry partners in the cyber security community to collaborate on a comprehensive submission for the recent Government initiative and grant to pilot a Professionalisation Scheme for Cyber Security Professionals in Australia as part activating the 2023 – 2030 Cyber Security Strategy.

The purpose of professionalisation schemes is to continuously improve the standards of members by implementing robust regulatory systems and detailed risk management strategies designed to protect the consumer. Whilst there are polarising views on professionalisation schemes, consumers have a right to accurate, clear, and consistent information about what defines a professional in cyber. As a ‘pilot’ program, the scheme will establish a baseline and point of reference from which Government and industry can learn, iterate, and improve, providing a more capable cyber workforce that builds consumer trust and keeps our communities safe.

It remains our focus that the pilot and proposed scheme is fair and equitable for all stakeholders in the Cyber Security industry and that it recognises existing expertise and competency, enables the growth of core cyber capabilities, and a focus on diversity and inclusion remains the guiding principle to articulate clear pathways to the profession and attract diverse talent. Regardless of the grant outcome, we are committed to collaboration and action and will continue to update members.
